Radial Heat Pipe problem
Hi all,
I'm hoping someone else has run into this question before. I'm trying to run the radial heat pipe (rhp) sample problem found in the TOUGH2 Manual. I've copied the input exactly as it is written in the manual, but when I try to run it using either EOS3 or EOS4, I get the attached error message. According to this message and the input of MOP(21)=1, it sounds like I want to use the iterative solver MATB for this problem and need to go through those steps. But this is where I'm getting confused. The MOP(21) description in the output file says "MOP(21)= 1: MATB : MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE", but the manual says "MOP(21)= 1: (void)". So, is this problem actually meant to be run using MATB? The problem itself doesn't discuss it and I don't actually see any mention of MATB in the manual, so I'm not really sure what it is (Google isn't much help either!). Just wanted to check before trying to tackle it2make, which will be a whole new set of questions.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Emily,
MOP(21) used to be the (proprietary) direct solver MA28, and now is a (proprietary) iterative solver; proprietary solvers cannot be distributed with iTOUGH2 for licensing reasons.
Please just follow the clear instruction given in the first line of the error message, i.e., set MOP(21)=6 to use the direct solver LUBAND.
The official distribution of iTOUGH2 contains all TOUGH2 test problems as well, including the radial heat pipe problem, with MOP(21) already set to 6.
Hope this helps.

Hi Stefan,
Thank you so much for your quick response! I actually did try it with MOP(21)=6 before posting, but it gave a much different result than what was shown in the manual so I didn't think it was right. I'll take another look and make sure I don't have something typed incorrectly, or better yet, I'll just find the sample problem included with the official iTOUGH2 files.
Thanks again!
Emily
