CO2 mass balance

Hi all,

I am experiencing a problem with CO2 mass balance in TOUGH2/ECO2N output. I am not able to figure out the reason behind missing CO2. After a year, if I look into the total CO2 in different phases, it doesn't support my injection rate (8kg/sec). Please look into the attached input and output file. I will really appreciate any suggestions/help to fix the issue.

Thanks,

Ram

    Ram,

I agree that your results do not make sense. However, I'm unable to reproduce them (my runs  - using various versions of TOUGH2 - all give the correct mass balance with substantially more gas volume and CO2 mass in the system).

In fact, I was not able to run your input file at all (there is a tabulator stop in the third line of block DIFFU, which leads to an immediate crash upon reading the input deck). Can you please fix this and try again?

I also recommend to set MOP(16)=4, RE1=1E-5, and RE2=1.0. Should it still not work, please also attach file CO2TAB.

Thanks for the quick response Stefan. I have tried the recommendations but the result is similar. I am attaching the modified input, output, and CO2TAB.

    Ram,

I'm still puzzled that you could run the file you sent (it still has the tab stop which makes it crash immediately). Please fix it as indicated in my previous reply. I attach the solution I get, which shows the expected mass balance values.

Your output sounds good to me. I am running the input file using both the executable files(directly from LBNL as well as compiled on my computer) . I am getting the same output from both of them.  Earlier I was suspecting an issue with CO2TAB, but now it looks like the issue with the version of TOUGH2 I have.  Please advise the future steps to fix it. I am okay with giving remote access to my computer.

I am opening the second input file in the text editor (PS Pad) on my pc and all three lines of DIFFU block look aligned. Its strange.  Thanks for the help.

    Regards,

    Ram

    Ram,

Don't just look whether the blocks are aligned (your tab stop may have been set such that it looks like they are aligned). Check whether you actually have spaces or a tab stop there - or simply delete and retype the third line.

Can anybody else from the TOUGH community quickly run Ram's problem and check the results?

    Thanks

    Stefan

When I am running the problem on TOUGHREACT, mass balance looks good. I have tried running it after rewriting the third line, but TOUGH2 output is same as earlier.

    Thanks,

    Ram
