Restart timestep

When restarting a run after long time calculation (e.g.1000year) and continuing the run until 10000year, I can't start the restart run properly. In the SAVE file, I see "**********" in the last line instead of the last time step number. So, I checked the last time step in "iter.dat"  (e.g. last time step = 3652514), and input the number in the line  "**********" in the SAVE file, and made it INCON file .  Then the restart run began at time step 36526. How can I restart the run  properly? I still use TOUGHREACT ver1. If I use ver.2, the problem doesn't occur?

The format at the end of the SAVE/INCON files is - as you noted - 5 digits, as the number of time steps in the original TOUGH version was limited to 99999. While you could change the source code and increase the length of the field in the format statement, I would simply reset it to 1 in the INCON file. This may not be a "proper" restart, as the total number of time steps is not carried forward (or has to be carried forward "by hand"), it should not have any adverse impacts on the simulation.

Thank you for your help. I understand that long time step number is not carried forward but the restart run is conducted correctly.
