EOS7C pressure range
Hi there,
I read through both the tough2 and EOS7C manuals to find the pressure range limitation to run simulations, but I didn't find it.
I have a abnormal high pressure reservoir, with pressure up to 100MPa. I noticed that the simulation ran somehow if I just lower the initial pressure to normal gradient.
Could you tell me the suitable pressure (gradient) range for EOS7C module?
Thanks
Jing

Dear Jing,
The pressure limit is 1.e8 Pa (1000 bars). This limitation was inherited from EOS3, on which EOS7C was built. If you can keep your pressure just below this limit, I think EOS7C should work.

Thank you Curt.
The project we are working on is a deep-buried high pressure gas reservoir, the initial pressure is about 110 MPa (1100 bars). Do you have any suggestion how to extend the pressure limit? Is it related the PVT codes? I saw other user asked similar question of different modulus.
Thanks

Dear Jing,
I believe the restriction is coming from the stated maximum pressure for the IFC Steam Tables. I do not know how inaccurate Steam Table predictions are at conditions with P > 100 MPa. You could change the maximum pressure in TOUGH2 to slightly above 1.1e8 Pa and do some testing of this to evaluate it. You could post the results of your testing here on the user forum.
The most expedient approach is to assume that your reservoir has initial pressure of 0.99e8 Pa. I imagine the reservoir pressure will drop anyway during production, so you would be below 100 MPa in the reservoir during production anyway.

Thank you Curt.
Attached is the result if I applied maximum reservoir pressure about 1.1e8Pa.
You are correct that the reservoir pressure drop below 100MPa after production there for two years. But we are trying to history match more measured data points since we only have 5 years production data, and a few of measured pressure data because of high pressure condition.

Hi Curt,
What is the IFC Steam Table? Is it for thermal? we didn't consider thermal in my project. So could you compile one executive model for us with higher pressure limitation, like 120MPa? That we can run the simulation at least, and also we may be able to test how accurate of EOS7C module if under condition P>100MPa.
Thank you very much

Forgot to mention that, the maximum temperature is about 130C in the reservoir.

Dear Jing,
The IFC Steam Tables form the database that provides water properties as a function of P,T in TOUGH2.
I'll get back to you soon on the other question/request. Thanks, -Curt
