A problem about the direction of the anisotropic permeability

Hello everyone,

I am using the EOS3 module to simulate the air and water flow in a hypothetical dome structure. I developed a 2-D radial model, and the PER in the ROCKS were set as 1e-12 (PER1), 1e-12 (PER2) and 1e-13 (PER3) to simulate the anisotropic condition. The schematic diagram of the model domain as well as the grid design are shown below. According to the description of CONNE in the TOUGH2 manual, I think the principle directions I specified for the permeability was like this (see below, please correct me if I am wrong).

But in reality, the principle direction of the permeability was like this (see below).

Can I realize that in TOUGH2? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Xin

You can set the direction of kz as the Z, but in the new coordinate the "beta" is the cosin value of the angle between vertical and the connection direction, not the angle  between Z direction and the connection direction. Please take a look of the keyword MESHM, Record XYZ.l (DEG). It may help.
