TOUGH2 EOS1 viscosity

Hi, All

I am using the EOS1 module to simulate fluidized sand mixing with water. I have read the tough2 manual. It seems like it is not available to modify viscosity, the default EOS 1 setting is 1 1 2 6. Does anyone have the experience in modifying viscosity?

Thank you

Bear

    Hi Bear,

Not quite sure what you try to do, whether TOUGH2 is the best way to simulate the processes of fluidized sand/water mixtures, whether you just want to use an increased viscosity throughout the model domain or one that depends on teh sand fraction in the liquid phase, etc. In short, I'm not sure what the best recommendation is. Here are a few options:

    (1) Change the water viscosity in subroutine VISW (you find it in file t2f.f). You will then have a constant viscosity throughout the model domain.

    (2) If you want to consider variable sand fractions in the liquid phase, use EOS7 and consider the brine concentration to represent "sand concentration"; you can then specify coefficients that calculate viscosity as a function of "sand concentration"; see the manual for the SELEC block in EOS7.

    (3) In case you have iTOUGH2 V7.1, you may also use the gelation module (EOSgel) with appropriate parameters for the gel-time curve.

    Good luck!

    Stefan
