TOUGH3/ECO2M input problems
Dear TOUGH community,
I am using TOUGH3/ECO2M for modeling two injection scenarios: i) liquid CO2 (5C, 100 bar) and ii) SC-CO2 (35C, 100 bar) at the wellhead at constant temperature. I have tried several different setup from my side and, also, from suggestions I got, but so far nothing works. Here are the changes:
I) I refined the grid at the wellbore to capture better the effects especially in the first case scenario of liquid CO2 injection.
ii) I tried to "inject" CO2 at 0 kg/s rate, and also a cyclic injection which increases till 110 kg/s (desired injection rate) in a period of 60 seconds - none of them worked.
iii) I also tried to inject CO2 al constant low rate 5kg/s, but did not work.
iv) In the INCON section, I tried for the wellhead block cell a X3 (CO2 mass fraction) equal to 0 (no CO2), to 1 (no water), 0.9 (CO2 with trace elements of water in the injected CO2) - but again nothing worked.
The different problems I was getting in the output were:
i) I get to high pressure values in short time (after 10 seconds, the pressure was over the pressure limit of 600 bar)
ii) There is a pressure drop in the two wellbore cells below to the wellhead one.
iii) There is CO2 flow from the wellbore to the caprock cells. I want only heat flow, but no fluid flow.
iv) There is flow coming out of the wellbore cell than is being added via GENER.
I please kindly ask for your help. I would really much appreciate it if you could take a look at my input file. I am attaching it. Thank you so much in advance!
Best regards,
Jose.

I did a quick look and found some problems. Once you correct the bugs in your input, the model should run normally. Main problems include:
(1) MOP(15) =5 is not correct, forget the analytical heat exchange solution first: set MOP(15) =0
(2) wrong data range for FE(3) and FE(4), set both to zero
(3) Line 3 in "PARAM" data section is wrong, must be deleted.
(4) Line 5 in "PARAM" data section is wrong (The leading TAB must be deleted).
(5) The injection rate is too high with current parameters, try injection rate =0.1kg/s first.
After all these changes, it should work. I am attaching the correct input files. Once the base case works OK, you can play around with different injection strategies.
