Why it takes unbelievable long time to run kinetics?

It seems that TOUGHREACT starts to choke when I add kinetics to the chemistry of the my model.  The model runs just fine for equilibrium. But once I add kinetics, the time step would become so small that it takes forever to run. Anyone knows what might be the reason?
