T2WELL/ECO2M phase transition issues
Dear TOUGH community,
I am trying to model CO2 injection into a saline aquifer. I have a model using T2WELL/ECO2M for coupled modeling, but there is a problem with convergence......the model runs, but it gets stuck at the very beginning. I have tried different grids, changed parameters in the PARAM section for time stepping. I also tried injecting as little as 1 kg/s, but nothing has helped so far. I used the same model, but with the ECO2N module (changing the temperature values), and the model runs with no issues.
The aquifer is located at 1500m depth with a thickness of 50 m (from 1450 to 1500 m). The well is vertical, the pressure is hydrostatic. The intended constant injection rate is 1 Mt/y.
I am attaching the model for your reference. I would very much appreciate any kind of help. Thanks.

When you are running T2WELL/ECO2M simulation, the convergence may be bad if the system phase condition is near the saturation line. If the system phase condition can shift a little bit away from saturation line, the convergence behavior may improve.
The density does not continue between gas/liquid CO2 along the saturation line which lead to bad convergence. This also explain why ECO2N can work well.
