MINC mesh repeating element ID

Hello,

I have a mesh of ~500,000 elements and I am trying to MINC two layers within the mesh.  The problem I am having is that after I MINC my primary MESH the I get repeated element ID's in the MINC file.  Each layer that is getting MINCed is 10,000 grid cells, so I get 40,000 MINCed elements with only ~22,000 unique element IDs.  Has anyone else had a problem with this or know of a solution?

Thank you,

Rick

    Hi Rick,

This is a known issue. Essentially, you have to make sure the first character in the element name of the primary mesh is not used, i.e., the remaining4  characters are sufficient to make all element names unique.

Given that you plan to run a model with at least 1 million elements, I presume you are using TOUGH2-MP, in which case you could use 8-character element names. iTOUGH2 would also provide up to 9-character element names. But you could even get away with using regular TOUGH2, as there are more that enough alphanumeric combinations in the AAII format - of course it requires some programming to use a different element naming scheme.

    Good luck!

    Stefan,

Thanks for the feedback! I ended up using a different mesh maker (MeshMaker_V1.5 from the free software) to create my mesh with 8-character element IDs and there are no longer duplicates in the MINCed mesh.

    Thanks!

    Rick
