How to create the following grid structure

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if TOUGH3 /MESHMAKER has the capability of creating the following grid structure. In this structure, number of grids in one layer is different than the above and below layer.

Refaat, TOUGH3 can handle grids like this, but they cannot be created by MESHMAKER. There is a utility that can create a boundary element similar to the arrangement you're showing here (AddBound: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1M4P0tH4IcGZD1LoHdmrsvEZWe8ydRhtm). However, these elements would be implemented individually from a structured grid. If you want something more complex, you'll need to use a different pre-processor.

Refaat G Hashish Just wants to know if AddBound can split the grids in one layer because I have a structured grid model with an equal number of grids in all layers and I want the number of grids in an intermediate layer to be higher than those in the above and below layers.

Refaat G Hashish, no it’s not really designed to do that. It will just turn a selection of elements (based on their coordinates) into a single element.

Mikey Hannon Sure, I think I can use it to replace a number of grid elements in the uppermost region with a single element and do the same for the lower regions as shown in the attached figure. I think this trick my help. It will be appreciated if you have any suggestions.

Mikey Hannon I would like to know if there is a pre-processor that can generate a composite grid model similar to the one in the attached photo.

Refaat G Hashish I have not tried myself but libraries like gmsh or PyGimli can produce these types of meshes. Both of them can be imported into toughio.

Refaat, I would encourage you to look here: https://tough.lbl.gov/pre-and-post-processors/

I’m partial to LaGriT (unix command based, free) and PetraSim (GUI based, not free), but everyone likes their own flavors (even some not on this list!)
