How to deactivate the mutual solubility of CO2 - Brine mixture in TOUGH3/ECO2N

Dears,

I am trying to model CO2 injection in saline aquifer reservoir. I would like to know if there is an option in TOUGH3/ECO2 to deactivate the mutual solubility between CO2 and brine. I used to deactivate the mutual solubility by injecting water-saturated CO2  into a brine that is initially saturated with CO2. However, as pressure increases significantly in some cases, mutual solubility can change.

I do not know of a way to deactivate the mutual solubility between CO2 and brine in TOUGH3/ECO2N.  I have used the same approach as you have to minimize dissolution.  I suppose you could run such a simulation and plot pressure versus time at the injection well, then set up a corresponding time-varying injection rate of water so injected CO2 would always be saturated with water, then rerun the simulation.  But this would not solve the problem of injected CO2 dissolving into the formation water.  Another strategy could be to minimize pressure change by making injection rate small or permeability large.

Christine Doughty This the plot of the temperature profile obtained using my approach to deactivate the mutual solubility. It gives slightly different results compared with those published in the literature. It seems that the effect of CO2 dissolution still has some effect.  I am interested in investigating the temperature profile while the pressure changes significantly.

I have done a similar study to investigate how different processes affect the temperature profile.  This link

should take you to a presentation I made as part of the TOUGH Beginner's Short Course.  See slides 4-11.
